WAS HENNY PENNY RIGHT?

“ I picked up a newspaper today and I couldn't believe it. I read eight headlines that talked about chaos, violence, unrest. And it just was Henny-Penny, "the sky is falling."

I don't know what to call it, but I firmly believe there will be another Crusade. Islam is a cult, not a religion and they will not be satisfied until we convert or we are destroyed. P.S. I am thinking of going to the Geneva Convention, do you know where it is being held?

Uhhh - Geneva?????

THE CONVENTION WILL BE HELD IN AN UNDECLARED COUNTRY THIS SEASON.

SADAAM WILL BE A GUEST LECTURER, SPEAKING ON INNOVATIVE TORTURE.

I guess you're right. They are all cult like. I became an Athiest when my IQ passed 75.

We can assume by this that you have reached at least 76?

The difference between a cult and a religion is purely numbers.

to political impaler
I assume that Islamist and Muslim are different names for the same religion, no? In that case it is the largest religion in the world. Hardly a cult.

Also, there are many bright theists. I respect the opinions and rights of athiests, agnostics, deists, theists. I happen to be a theist. That doesn't make me borderline retarded as you suggested. I honestly don't know who has the higher I.Q., you or me. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and admit that you may have the higher stat. If that is the case it is not by virtue of the fact that you don't believe in God. If I have the higher it is not by virtue of the fact that I am a theist. Also, it was pretty slick but gullible to suggest that I.Q. scores reliably identify intelligence. That is more trusting than belief in a diety.

I only speak for myself.I attended catholic grammer school, high school and college and am convinced there is nothing after we depart this life. I would love to be proven wrong upon my death but I don't think that will happen. I have a 17yr old son who is in a Catholic High School in Staten Island and I tell him to follow his own beliefs because mine may be flawed. I think it's great that people believe in a God. It keeps them centered. I just don't believe that Islam should be called a religion. It advocates the killing of non believers. I heard on the news that Bin Laden has been given permission by Islam to kill up to ten million people. No religion would do that. Islam is a distortion of religion.

I 'survived" 9/11 with the sad realization that our country is more fragile than it was five years ago -- our President has done so little to lessen the ever growing hatred of the USA throughout the world, especially in the Middle East...and he proclaims his policies in the name of God!!! -- all very, very scary.

I didn't have the energy or openness to hear his talk today at the UN (the twisted traffic patterns and amazing show of force of the NYPD was enough for me) but I will listen to the ten o'clock news to hear his comments and will try to "listen" -- always a challenge.

to political impaler:

We share more than I thought. I too went to Catholic grammar school, high school and college (secular grad school). I abandoned all religious practice for about twenty years and came back when my children were young (six and three). They are now 30 and 27. Both are atheists. Go figure. I respect their philosophical convictions. I'm sure that if there is a god he/she respects them too. God doesn't need adoring yes men.

The problem that I see when religions become mainstream as opposed to cults (numbers again) is that they attain power: political, social and ecomomic. This power is too often used corruptly. Chrisianity is no more clean in this area than Muslims. Witness the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition. Our Christian fundamentalists given the chance (and it seems that Bush is an enabler) would gladly bring back thought control and punishment for those who disagree.

I also have grown children. My two oldest daughters 39 and 36 tend to think the same as I do. I had nothing to do with this. They arrived at this on their own. My youngest daughter is 30 and is born again. I don't know how my grandchildren are being raised. We never discussed it. The Crusades were a long time ago. I know that there were christians who killed, cooked and ate their enemies. We don't do that anymore. I do agree with you 100% about the fundamentalists. They have entirely too much control over the Republican party.

Erm...I am an Anglican..we aren't as exclusive as other Christians. We would welcome The Political Impaler even with an IQ of 76.

To All...

I found the conversation about religion of interest. Being a practicing Catholic, I believe more in the power of prayer as focused introspection and perhaps communication with a higher power. However, I sometimes think that Catholicism in it's purest form of practice,is better viewed as an outgrowth of Babylonian and Druid magic. But don't tell that to the pope. It is interesting that when I pray, as I was taught to do as a child, following communion, someone will inevitably poke me with a collection basket. So much for meditation.
Bring on the Temple sisters and throw me a veil!

I'M NOT CERTAIN, BUT, I THINK THE 'POPE' SHOULD BE CAPITALIZED.
AS I RECALL, THE RULE WAS TO CAPITALIZE ALL PROPER AND INFALLIBLE NOUNS.

"...CAPITALIZE ALL PROPER AND INFALLIBLE NOUNS."

Yes, clearly many attempt to capitalize on the Pope. From Presidents and Tony Blairs to Pilgrims to Muslim extremists to Dan Brown.
I can wait to see the new Pope for Diet Pepsi ad campaign.
Holy neurotoxins Batman!
