BULLYLAND

THE PRESIDENT AND FIRST LADY HOSTED A WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE TO SPUR ANTIBULLYING EFFORTS IN SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE.
GOOD IDEA.
BULLYING IS RAMPANT IN OUR SCHOOLS, NEIGHBORHOODS, AND, MOST RECENTLY, ON THE INTERNET.
CYBERSPACE HAS PROVIDED A NEW PLATFORM WHERE EVEN THE WEAKEST, PUNIEST BANTAM CAN ANNONYMOUSLY TORMENT AN ALPHA-KID,
PROVING THAT THE INTERNET IS NOT ALL ABOUT PORN AFTER ALL.
WE NOW HAVE THE DEMOCRATIZATION OF ABUSE!

IT’S A NASTY PROBLEM.
OH THOSE ROTTEN KIDS!
WHERE DID THEY LEARN THE DARK ART?

AREN’T WE A NATION FOUNDED AND DEVELOPED ON TWO OF THE GREAT BULLYING PROGRAMS IN WORLD HISTORY?
YOU KNOW THEM.
THINK SIOUX.
THINK AFRICANS.
BULLYING IS DEEP IN OUR DNA.

OUR CONGRESS MORPHED INTO A BULLYING SYMPOSIUM.
WE HAVE A FOREIGN POLICY MARBLED WITH BULLYING.
CURIOUSLY, OUR EXECUTIVE BRANCH SPEAKS FROM THE BULLY PULPIT.
WASN’T THE BANKING AND WALL STREET FREE-FALL ROOTED IN
THE B-WORD?
WHY, IF WE WERE DEPRIVED OF OUR BULLYING BIRTHRIGHT WE’D WIND UP BEING CANADA, OR WORSE.

WE 4% EXCEPTIONALISTS CONSUME 25% OF THE WORLD’S ENERGY.
BULLY FOR US…WE CAN AFFORD IT!

WE HAVE TAUGHT OUR CHILDREN WELL.
THEY HAVE BEEN TUTORED BY PROS.

there have always been bullys...I remember being bullied and also being the perpetrator of regretful acts myself at that time of angst, puberty. It is the person with needs not being met, the half, trying to make a whole somehow. Some small voice says to push the weak, and hopefully your voice will be heard. If you can't be loved, you can be feared...
I agree, the example is not there, or rather a bad one is. But, I also think if we feel cherished and loved for the unique individuals each of us are, there would be no need. We would feel safe and secure...no desired to fight our way to the top of the pile, leaving bodies in our wake.
What the hell does Obama think he's going to do about this? This is not a political issue, it's a societal one. Cherish the family, the mother, the father and, most importantly the child...and the rest will follow.

the latest from the 'experts' is that the profile of the bully no longer is exclusive to the unloved loner or maladjusted kid.
they now claim that the bully is often a popular, involved kid.
any thoughts?

True that bullies have and will always exist... I don't believe that they are only loners who somehow feel brave enough to take advantage of another. If you work with teens for many years, you see how they are all trying to belong to something or someone. So, why is it so prevalent now or just so visible now?

Perhaps it is the "Lord of the Flies" syndrome. Without vigilance and supervision the savage in children begins to rule the psyche. The id is primitive, selfish and vicious. To further complicate things some adults still believe that the way to enforce civilized behavior in children is to use corporal punishment.

P.S. to quicksand:

"Un-brief is un-read?" What about "War and Peace," "Remembrance of Things Past." We live too much in a sound bite world. There is still a place for length and thougthful reflection... This in no way is meant to diminish your insightful concise pieces.
