FREE $PEECH

You strut to the front of the line at the motor vehicle office, approach the clerk, and put some cash on the counter along with your paper work.
You say, “Expedite this for me.”

A cop pulls you over for exceeding the speed limit.
He asks for your license and registration.
You hand him both, along with a neatly folded $100 bill.
You wink.

You have a meeting with Skipper’s teacher.
You say you’d like his grades to be raised.
You push a sealed envelope across the desk.

None of these gestures are acceptable, or maybe even legal.

However, contributing money to a politician to influence his behavior is considered free speech.

It’s the poison in our political system.

well put bruce - sad but true - our system is broken. I would only add that our current supreme court with rulings like Citizens United ensure the oligarchs thru their corporations have virtually sealed the demise of a participatory democracy. nader was right - a one party nation with two wings of the Corporate Party.

I WENT OUT ON A BLIND DATE WITH A CORPORATION ONCE.
IT WAS A DULL EVENING.
I PAID FOR EVERYTHING.
NEVER AGAIN.
