Grover Norquist, volunteer for Richard Nixon, aide-de-scamp to Oliver North, consultant in the Contract with America, and name-dropped in the Senate testimony relating to the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, is the president of Americans For Tax Reform.
His organization has developed an anti-taxing scripture in the form of a pledge.
The 'promissory note' has been signed by More than 1,100 officeholders, from local politicians, to congressmen, to governors.
Above all else, they have taken Norquist’s blood-oath to never, ever, raise taxes.
But, here’s a new and improved pledge for politicians to sign, which might better serve our communities as well as this nation:
I pledge, that, upon leaving public office, I will never become a lobbyist. Furthermore, I’ll never work for a lobbying firm, nor will I become a political “consultant” [whatever that is].
I also promise that upon leaving public office, my net worth will be very close to what it was when I entered government.
