SUPPORT THE TROOPS

HAVE YOU EVER SAID, "BY THE WAY" ?
IT MEANS NOTHING, NO?
WE USE TONS OF CLICHES. MORE THAN YOU COULD SHAKE A STICK AT.
SEE WHAT I MEAN? CLICHES DON'T WEIGH ANYTHING, AND WHAT'S THIS 'SHAKE A STICK' ALL ABOUT?
CASPER WEINBURGER ONCE SAID, " LABELS ARE SUBSTITUTES FOR THINKING".
LET'S CHANGE THAT TO, "CLICHES ARE SUBSTITUTES FOR THINKING".
TAKE, "SUPPORT THE TROOPS".
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
MY VIETNAM WAR- VET- ELECTRICIAN WAS DOING SOME WORK HERE RECENTLY.
AFTER FINISHING THE WORK, HE SAT DOWN TO GIVE ME HIS BILL. WE STARTED TALKING.
I ASKED HIM IF HE , 'SUPPORTED THE TROOPS', AND, HE SAID THAT HE DID.
AFTER ALL, HE HIMSELF WAS ONCE A TROOP. WOUNDED TOO. I ASKED HIM JUST WHAT THAT MEANT. HE STRAINED FOR AN ANSWER.
WE HEAR IT OFTEN. THE MAGNETIC RIBBONS ARE EVERYWHERE. "I SUPPORT OUR TROOPS"! IT'S FAIR TO ASK, "WHAT DOES THAT MEAN"?

"I Support our Troops" is Oreo cookies. It's comfort food. It makes us feel good as we say it, like Oreos makes us feel good when we eat them, but the rub is too many cookies make us fat. Too many empty words make us complacent and dumb.
It's fine to support our troops. I think the surface sentiment in this statement is that we support the idea of keeping the morale of those men and women up and that we hope that no more die. But, the fact is they do die. Whether we proclaim support or not, they die. So, instead maybe people should have more honest magnets. Can you fit, "it's a shame to send our youth to waste for a cause that is vague at best and the only reason why I really support out troops is because I am in love with the romantic image that the media portrays of them and chances are if you questioned me further what I would say is that I support the troops but not the war but if questioned even further I probably would just nod and look off in the distance until you stopped talking and then I would leave you and drive up to a 7-11 and buy a large sleeve of Oreos and a Big Gulp of Diet Soda and say that I am on a diet" on a magnetic ribbon?

OREO COOKIES WERE THE UNIVERSAL SYMBOL FOR PEOPLE WHO WERE BLACK ON THE OUTSIDE...BUT... WHITE ON THE INSIDE. AKA UNCLE TOMS OR WANNABES.
I TRIED TO THINK OF THE REVERSE SYMBOL FOR PEOPLE WHO WERE WHITE ON THE OUTSIDE BUT BLACK ON THE INSIDE. AN IMPORTANT CONCEPT IN THIS HIP-HOPPIAN WORLD OF OURS.
NO SUCCESS YET.

AS TO THE TROOPS...IF SUPPORT MEANS MORALE AND SAFETY...I HAVE A PLAN TO REALLY SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE TROOPS.

"support" is an interesting term. if speaking about the "support" from, say your parents...it would mean for them to provide for your wellbeing, keep you out of harms way, providing you with the skills and the assistance to be financially and emotionally sound in the future. if i were part of the 'troops', i would hope that the 'support' i get from my fatherland, my government, would be the guarantee that i would not be sacrificed for the purpose of someone else's financial or political gain, to make sure that i am kept out of harms way unless completely necessary for the stability of our 'family' or our fellow citizens; that when i returned home after providing for the security and protection of my country, that my government would provide me with the financial support and assistance so that i may return to some sense of normality after fighting a guerrilla war in downtown baghdad. well, if giving 'support' is as easy as slapping a magnetic ribbon on the back of my SUV or minivan, then hallelujah..i can't wait to be a parent. forget responsibility or accountability.as long as i say that i support my kids,it must be true, no effort required...ah..i love america.

Karl Marx once said that "religion is the opiate of the masses." George Orwell condensed thoughts down to their essence with the concept of "Newspeak" in 1984. Aldous Huxley showed how slogans are a form of mind control in Brave New World. America has truly become a nation of sheep, or a nation of idiots;depending upon your perspective. The media has controlled the masses by sloganing for decades. How easy is it to stamp something with a label and repeat it ad nauseum. The republicans, the Bushman in particular, have adpoted this Newspeak to hide the Truth. The illegal Iraqi War is misnomered "Operation Iraqi Freedom." Allowing companies to release greater amounts of CO2 into the air is misnomered "The Clean Air Act." How absurd it is then to "support our troops" by displaying a yellow or a red, white, and blue magnetic stucker on your car!?! The money goes into the pocket of some greedy capitalist who is profiting on the death and destruction in Iraq. The late great Dr. Hunter S. Thompson said it the best: we have become a "Generation of Swine."

HEY HAZE,
THE THING THAT ASTONISHES AND FRUSTRATES ME IS THAT WITH OUR 'ALL MEDIA ALL THE TIME', TALK SHOWS, C-SPAN, CNN, AND ALL THE NEWS THAT WE SWIM IN DAILY... IT'S NEVER EVEN BEEN DISCUSSED. JUST WHAT DOES 'SUPPORT OUR TROOPS' MEAN ?
