CORRECTION...THIS STORY WAS A LIE

HIS NAME IS ALI SHALAL QAISSI. HE IS A 43 YEAR OLD MAN WITH A MANGLED HAND MADE WORSE BY THE SHACKLES WHICH CHAFFED HIS SKIN AND CAUSED INFECTIONS.
HE WALKS WITH A LIMP, WHICH WAS WORSENED BY THE DAYS OF BEING TIED UP AND KEPT IN UNNATURAL POSITIONS . HE HAS NIGHTMARES.

HE WAS OFFICIALLY KNOWN AS PRISONER # 151716.
YOU KNOW HIM AS THE HOODED MAN STANDING ON A BOX WITH ELECTRODES ATTATCHED TO HIS WIDE- SPREAD ARMS.
HIS PICTURE IS THE INTERNATIONAL ICON OF AMERICAN TORTURE AT ABU GHRAIB.

UPON BEING ASKED TO CONFIRM THIS INFORMATION, A SPOKESMAN FOR THE AMERICAN MILITARY DECLINED TO COMMENT, SAYING THAT IT WOULD VIOLATE THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS TO DISCLOSE THE IDENTITY OF PRISONERS IN ANY OF THE ABU GHRAIB PHOTOGRAPHS, OR THE REASONS BEHIND THE DETENTIONS. HONORING THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS IS IMPORTANT.

ACCORDING TO RECORDS MADE AVAILABLE BY AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL,
MR. QAISSI WAS A LOCAL MAYOR. AFTER THE INVASION, HE MANAGED A PARKING LOT BELONGING TO A MOSQUE.
HE WAS ARRESTED BECAUSE HE COMPLAINED TO THE MILITARY, HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS, AND THE NEWS MEDIA ABOUT SOLDIERS DUMPING GARBAGE ON A LOCAL SOCCER FIELD.
HE WAS SYMPATHIC TOWARD INSURGENTS WHO FOUGHT AMERICAN SOLDIERS. "RESISTANCE IS AN INTERNATIONAL RIGHT," HE SAID.

WEEKS AFTER COMPLAINING ABOUT THE GARBAGE, HE WAS ARRESTED, HOODED, TIED UP AND TAKEN TO ABU GHRAIB.
HE WAS STRIPPED AND TIED WITH HIS HANDS UP HIGH. A GUARD WROTE GRAFFITI ON HIS CHEST AND FACE. HE WAS SLEEP DEPRIVED AND URINATED ON.
HE WITNESSED WHAT AMERICANS WERE DOING TO HIS COUNTRYMEN.
AFTER BEING HELD NAKED FOR DAYS, HE WAS GIVEN A BLANKET WHICH HE FASHIONED INTO THE PONCHO SEEN IN THE PICTURE.
HE WAS TOLD TO STAND ON A BOX WHERE HE WAS WIRED AND SHOCKED.

AFTER SIX MONTHS, HE WAS HOODED, LOADED ONTO A TRUCK, AND DRIVEN AWAY. THE TRUCK STOPPED AND HE WAS TOLD HE WAS FREE. HE IS NOW A PRISONER ADVOCATE.

NOTE: THIS STORY HAS BEEN PROVEN UNTRUE. MR. QAISSI HAS ADMITTED THAT HE WAS NOT THE MAN IN THE PICTURE.

Amnesty International has an agenda on a par with the ACLU. I have no sympathy for these people. They chop off our heads and all we do is haze them. Saddam Hussein knew how to treat these savages, he should be put back in power.

THESE PEOPLE?
THEY CHOP OFF OUR HEADS?
THERE ARE 25,000,000 PEOPLE IN IRAQ. NOT ONE OF THEM HAS EVER DONE YOU A BIT OF HARM.
AMERICA WENT TO WAR AND INVADED THEIR COUNTRY.
DEFINE SAVAGE.
DEFINE HAZING.

This is just one of the consequences of modern day war. Hard to tell who is the enemy. Please state where you got your facts from. I believe you're smoking bad weed. Those people who did chop off heads are savages. Are you going to defend them too? You're just another pussy-ass American afraid to take a stand. Most Iraqis are doing nothing to turn in the terrorists. There were millions in Germany whom did nothing to stop the genecide, they are as guilty. You should rename this blog "Pussytrixs"

Having people strip is hazing. Scaring people with dogs is hazing. Threatening and screaming at people is hazing. Hazing is what happened in that prison.
This is what savages do. Savages place the heads of their victims all over a town. Savages shoot missles into playgrounds and than plant bombs in the childrens dead bodies so the parents and families of the dead children get blown up when they come for them. This happened in Talafa,Iraq. Look it up.

I really don't understand why it is so hard for the administration, the politicalimpaler and the like, to just admit what has really happened in Iraq. I was not, in principle, opposed to getting rid of Saddam and his henchmen but I have been opposed to how it has been carried out. The prupose of all foreign policy action is to protect the national interest and any action you take that hurts that interest is wrong. Anyone who carries out those actions should be held accountable and the buck should stop with who calls the shots. With respect to Iraqi prisoners, we don't even need to get into an ethical argument about whether it is right or not to torture. We could be cynical and say it was wrong because it was stupid and has done more to harm American interests than the war itself. It reflects what is rotten int he administration. Not that it went to war ignoring the UN or the international community. I could live with that. But that it carries on as if running the most powerful country in the world is like being in an Ivy League frat house. Everything is carried out like a bunch of drunken frat boys (the reference to "hazing" by the impaler is telling) who smash up a few things and never have to worry about the consequences because Daddy has already taken care of things. If Bush and the administration would have had any courage, Rumsfeld would have been fired when the photos came out. Not only would it have been a sign of integrity but also it would have shown that he had the interests of the country and not the frat house at heart.
Blaming the Iraqi victims is easy and gutless. True courgae and leadership says the buck stops with us.

I think this all proves that war is hell. Unless of course you had 5 deferments to avoid it (Cheney) or joined the Air National Guard and showed up only occassionally when it was convenient (Bush). Then, maybe, at worst, war might be "heck."

Your writing is always interesting and thought provoking. This piece goes way beyond! This is concise, penetrating and insightful commentery. Great stuff! Keep it up!

to the political impaler:

May I offer another definition of "savage?" A savage is one who sends a superpower to preemptive war under false intelligence (WMD)with other peoples children.

The impaler impales nothing but uses old worn out cliches concerning groups that he has no clue as to the work that they do. Not one war against insurgents has proved to be successful since the war in Vietnam...Not one. We have unwittingly provided the world with an "icon" of the savagery and stupidity of the current regime. In Vietnam we were trying, in vain, to win the "hearts and minds" of the Vietnamese. We did neither. Now we don't even give lip service to winning anyone over. On the contrary, we are turning the world against us. What about the insipid clip of Bush standing on the aircraft carrier with the words "Mission Accomplished" behind him?? Yes, he did accomplish something. He made the U.S. a laughing stock of a country. A nation governed by idiots with idiots ready to defend him as we can readily see by those who write to support him.

ABOUT PUSSYTRIXS,
IF YOU ARE CORRECT THAT,
'MOST IRAQIS ARE DOING NOTHING TO TURN IN TERRORISTS'
WOULDN'T THAT BE TELLING US SOMETHING?
THE GERMANY ANALOGY IS GOOD. YOUR COUNTRY HAS KILED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, IN YOUR NAME, TO REMOVE WEAPONS THAT DIDN'T EXIST.
YOU ACCUSE ME OF NOT TAKING A STAND. TAKING A STAND IS EXACTLY
WHAT I'M DOING.
WHO IS THE 'GOOD GERMAN' HERE?

quicksand said...

JUST A LITTLE HAZING?
YOU WOULDN'T MIND IF YOUR CHILDREN EXPERIENCED A LITTLE HAZING THEN?
SEVERAL OF THOSE HAZED PEOPLE WERE HAZED TO DEATH.
LOOK IT UP

BLIX,
YOU SAY IT SO WELL.

MR MILES,
THE NUMBER WHO HAVE NOT STRAYED FROM THE BUSH DOGMA IS SHRINKING. POLLS INDICATE THAT 35% OF AMERICANS STILL SUPPORT HIM. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT 65% DON'T.
THE BUSHINISTAS, OR DIE-HARDS, OR DEAD-ENDERS STAY MARRIED TO THEIR UNITER...NOT DIVIDER.

Bruce,

I remain frustrated that the war is not a factor in the American consciousness. It exists as an entity in a far away place more Kansas than Oz because we see it only in black and white instead of the vile color of human suffering . I read recently that there are currently 8,000 Americn deserters from our armed forces and a significant number of soldier suicides. Fortunately, they have found an exit strategy albiet one born out of anarchy or conscience.
My daughter will soon graduate college with a degree in American Civilization. I believe that the best thing that she can do to better serve her country will be to civilize the Americans west of the Mississippi and south of the Mason Dixon Line. God knows they can use it....
Lastly, back to your blog, it seems to be a bad time to be a former mayor with an opinion..and sadly, most Americans remain polarized in theirs!

this is to anonimous who told bruce "You're just another pussy-ass American afraid to take a stand".
Not only that bruce is taking a stand, he also knows exactly what he's talking about, the fact is that you are an ignorant and blind individual who thinks with his ass, and I think that you should get some education before you state any stupid opinion of yours about any of the topics. And if bruce is smoking bad weed, I want some of that, fore I'd rather be high on his bad weed than be a dumbass like yourself who has no clue about what's going on in the world. if anything you are the pussy-ass because you were a coward not to identify yourself in the first place, Mr. Anonymous. Get your facts straight before you start critisizing other peoples facts.

I have this sense of deja vu... Wait a minute! It is December 29 all over again, or in other words, "Do we know what we think we know?" The answer for December 29 and March 12 is "no!"
Just goes to show again how elusive the truth can be.
