PUTTING THE CONCEPT IN CONCEPTION

LIFE DOES NOT BEGIN AT CONCEPTION. IT BEGINS WAY BEFORE.
EACH PARTNER-LESS EGG IS THROBBING WITH LIFE AS IT WAITS FOR PRINCE CHARMING TO COME SQUIGGLING ALONG.

IN TURN, EACH SPERM CELL PADDLES ABOUT--- SEARCHING FOR A LONELY EGG--- IN HOPES OF BECOMING A FULLY-REALIZED PERSON.
UNLIKE BASEBALL, THE BATTING AVERAGE IS EITHER 1,000 OR 0.
NO MISTER-IN-BETWEEN.

THUS, LIFE DOESN'T BEGIN...IT MERELY CONTINUES.

BUT LET'S NOT QUIBBLE.
LET'S AGREE THAT LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION.

CONSIDER THIS CONCEPT:

AN AGRESSIVE FIRE BREAKS OUT IN A DUEL-PURPOSE BUILDING.
THE BUILDING HOUSES A FERTILITY CLINIC WHICH STORES FROZEN EMBRYOS.
IT'S ALSO THE LOCATION OF A DAY-CARE CENTER FOR INFANTS AND TODDLERS.

THE FIREMAN RACE INTO THE ADVANCING BLAZE.
DO THEY TRY TO SAVE THE CHILDREN OR THE EMBRYOS?

I think it was John Barth who suggested that our children are not our children but our grandchildren. The sperm and egg are our children.

Of course the firemen would save the already completely formed children. Does that negate the humanity of the fertilized eggs? I think not. If a fireman were to go into a burning building and was only able to extricate one trapped child and he only rescued one that would not cast doubt on the humanity of the one left behind.

If one believes that human life begins at the very moment of conception and that fertilized egg deserves all the protection that a born person deserves then the argument for them is over. Yet, not all are willing to buy that concept. Some would argue that the fertilized egg is not a human being. But at birth it is clear that there is a human being. Then the question is where in the development from fertilized egg to newborn does this humanity come into being. Tough question to find a clear answer to. It is also difficult to determine at what point in the evolutionary process did humans become humans and stop being simply primates. Could there be a thousand year period of time in which this transition took place? Probably the question is unanswerable in scientific or moral terms.

The best suggestion is to Xavior Onassis ....

When does life end, according to law and medicine? When brain activity ends.

When does life begin? When brain activity begins.

There's no brain at conception.

Haven't we all seen examples of people long after birth and long before death showing no brain activity? At least one has become the most powerful man in the world.

I bet your Mom picked up alot of socks from your bedroom floor with "potential" lifeforms encased within...yeah, it's crude, but I just had to say that, knowing you as I expect you were during those hormonally surging years...
As far as the children in the building, of course the "firefighters" will save them. Who cares about the pampered few who save their ego-driven potential progeny in freezers for a sometime future of procreation? You could take this to another level...what about freezing my ear in case cloning is successful and I can repeat this long, strange trip again? Isn't this planet already bearing enough weight with all the naturally concieved beings upon it?

Your masturbatory allusions are distinctly male oriented. Why? Why not a female using a seedless cucumber to avoid pregnancy. Yeah that's crude, but I just had to say that...

The embryos have their whole life ahead of them! Save my sperm.

By this logic we should save things that are most likely to beget. Save the whores!

hahaha...my remarks were distinctly male, because our MAN Bruce be that species. Unless you have some information that I have not been privy to? :)

GOLLY,
SUCH AN INTERESTING ASSORTMENT OF COMMENTS!

FROM JOHN BARTH TO XAVIOR ONASSIS.
FROM CLONE MY EAR TO SAVE MY SPERM!

FROM YUPPIE FETUS-FARMING TO SOCKING IT TO MY SOCKS!

THE LEFT PRETENDS THAT LIFE DOESN'T BEGIN AT CONCEPTION.
THE RIGHT LOSES INTEREST IN LIFE ONCE IT LEAVES THE WOMB.

THE PROPOSITION HERE IS THAT ON THE SLIDE-RULE OF LIFE, ALL THINGS ARE NOT EQUAL.
A TWO-YEAR OLD CHILD HAS MORE CLAIM THAN A TWO-MONTH OLD FETUS...
A FIVE-YEAR OLD TRUMPS A NINTY-YEAR OLD ON LIFE SUPPORT.

AND...ALAS, A FREE-RANGE WOMAN TAKES PRIORITY OVER A DEVELOPING
FETUS.
